Title: Teaching To Make a Difference Target grade level: Middle School/High School teachers Presenters: Marilyn Hutnik and Rose Karjala Description: In this workshop, we will be taking a close look at our role as catalysts for change in the lives of our students and society. Try to imagine a world without high school, then think about the opportunities we encounter daily to impact our students. We will examine the fine art of creating an atmosphere of mutual respect in the classroom, allowing time for problem solving. So bring your problems! In addition, we will briefly discuss how kids learn, and offer some cross-curriculum teaching strategies related to your needs. We will conclude by offering a "toolkit" of ideas for connecting kids to their world and empowering them, through the curriculum, to make a difference.
